PROJECT
Kotka cathode active material plant (CAM)
Rego is an official partner of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), the main contractor of the Kotka cathode active material plant and is responsible for project management together with CHEC's own organization.
The investment in the plant is around €800 million and the project will employ around 800 people during the most active phase of construction. The environmental permit for the plant was granted in December 2024 and the construction permit for the project was issued in February 2025. Work on the site started in April 2025 and commercial production is planned to start in 2027.

When completed, the plant will produce cathodic active material used in electric cars and energy storage, for example. The plant will directly employ an estimated 270 people when it starts operations, and its construction and operation will generate significant economic and employment effects for the entire Kymenlaakso region.
For Rego, the Kotka CAM plant is a very significant and important project and the project will employ an estimated 20+ full-time project management professionals.
"We are very pleased with CHEC's confidence in our organisation's expertise, and the project is a good reflection of the dedicated and hard work that the whole organisation has already put into the project. We will continue to do the same to ensure that this great project is built on time and successfully to Kotka",
says Heikki Schemeikka, CEO of Rego.
